Objectives:

1.  Understand major trends in American culture.

2.  Gain a wider perspective and more accurate portrayals of life in the U.S.

3.  Strengthen critical thinking skills when analyzing other cultures.

4.  Engage in authentic culture exchange.

5.  Have a fun and enjoyable time together!

Participation/Attendance:

Due to the nature of this course, attendance is crucial. This is an active class that requires your full participation as a speaker and listener.

Respect:     

I can’t stress enough the importance of respect in the classroom, including both the instructor and students. I will try my best to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and respectful and I ask you to do the same:

1.  Cell phones MUST be turned off – no short messages or computer games.

2.  Do not talk or interrupt when others are talking.

3.  Don’t be shy!  This is your time and opportunity to “get bestirred, develop perseverance, aspire the truth and blaze new trails”

4.  Speak as much English as possible.
