Welcome the Freshmen!

English Street Club had a brilliant evening party on Oct.13th in order to welcome the freshmen on campus.

      Even though it was rainy and cold that evening, nearly all the members arrived on time. So the party began at 7:30pm in the hall of the Foreign Language School. Being different from the other evening parties, this one focused on the communication between each member who just joined us. So they were divided into 8 teams to chat and make friends. Apart from some usual programmes like singing and dancing, the organizer had set a series of entertaining games. Obviously, all these games were related to English. For instance, freshmen enjoying themselves in carrying balloons and recitation(运气球,背英文句子), passing on an English message(传话), finding the common things among the team members(找成员之间的共同点), so on and so forth.

     At the moment of communicating, it gave members a chance to know each other and get as much information as possible, just like in the English Corner, while the section of singing enabled everyone to immerse himself in the cheerful atmosphere. A girl named Xuning gave us a song of  Qingzhang Plateau(青藏高原) and her resonant voice aroused everybody's interest.

     In the happy time with lots of  laughters, a girl named Zhangdian from the School of History(历史学院) expressed her delight thoroughly . “You know it was the first time that I had the courage to communicate with so many strangers in English. I couldn't find a good chance to practise my oral English in high school.'' she said, "Teachers just emphasised the importance of written tests.'' Besides these, her roomate was excited as well. "At the mean time, I get to know a lot of new friends from other schools here. What we have in common is the strong desire to learn English well. That's wonderful for me!'' Hearing these words, workers in the club together with the new joiners were happy that our new members could like the activity.

     " I really appreciate the other activities organized by the English Street Club, such as the English Corner, English Movies Salon. We make friends with each other and improve our listening skills and oral English at the same time. That is why I like it.'' Meanwhile, a sophomore from The School of Survey and Map(测绘)gave us a good suggestion. "It will be fantastic if more native speakers or foreign teachers can join us in these activities." He added.

      The party ended at 9:30pm, while almost everyone got a small present. There were satisfactions and joyfulness in everyone's face. The workers were really shocked by the Enthusiasm and kindness of the freshmen. As a result, it is our responsibility to provide the lovely boys and girls what they need to help their English.

    So come on guys! We are waiting for all of you!
